Gujrati

The most famous dances of Gujrat are Garba and Dandiya dances. Garba is danced by women moving in a circle round an earthen lamp symbolising Shakti or an image of Goddess. It is generally danced during Navratri Puja. Modern Garba is also associated with the Raas Lila of Krishna and Gopis. In Dandiya dance men and women form two circles holding painted sticks (dandiya sticks) with small bells attached to them and periodically hitting each other's sticks while moving in opposite directions.
