Ballroom Dance

Ball, from Latin ballare, means 'to dance'. A ballroom is a large room specially designed for such dances. In the past, ballroom dancing was social dance for the privileged while folk dancing was for the common folk or lower classes. Of course, even in that time many ballroom dances were refined forms of folk dances. Ballroom dance is essentially partner dance performed socially.
